Department of ENT
The department of ENT has a total of 5 units namely:
Inpatients
The department has two wards male and female ward for both public and private patients respectively; both wards admit patients with various ENT problems.
Outpatients
Each unit runs an outpatient clinic to follow up patients. Patients attending outpatient clinic include those discharged from the wards with and new patients referred from other centers but did not need admission. These are patients with chronic or long standing ENT problems include congenital, acquired and infectious disease of the ear, larynx, nasopharynx, sinonasal, oropharnx, salivary glands. Outpatient clinic is run on a daily working days basis.
Ward Rounds.
In each of the ENT wards, ward rounds are conducted on a daily basis by registrar doctor along with resident and/or specialist. This includes weekends and public holidays. Major ward rounds are done twice a week by specialists along with the other junior doctors. Evening teaching rounds are also done daily.
Training.
The department is involved in training undergraduate medical students, and postgraduate MUHAS residents. We are also involved in training registrar doctors and Nurse Students and from time to time we receive elective students from different countries. As part of continuing education we conduct Journal clubs, case presentations and mortality presentations each once a week. We conduct research work for postgraduate students and outreach programs.
Rhinology Unit.
This unit deals with the disease of the nose and paranasal sinuses which includes congenital, acquired and infectious, it’s well established with modern endoscopy facilities for diagnosis and operations.
Otology Unit.
This unit deals with the disease of the ear and mastoid region which includes congenital, acquired and infectious; it’s well established with modern microscopy facilities for diagnosis and operations.
Head and Neck Unit
This unit deals with the disease of the neck and throat including diseases of the larynx, oropharynx, and hypopharynx and salivary glands which includes congenital, acquired and infectious, it’s well established with equipments for diagnosis and operations.
Audiology Unit
This unit deals with the patients suffering from hearing impairment and balance, it has facilities for hearing assessment, evaluation of patients with balance problem and hearing aids fitting and services.
Speech and Language Therapy Unit.
This unit deals with the patients suffering from speech disorders including children with delayed speech, post cochlear implants and adults post strokes.
