Haematology & Blood Transfusion

The section is responsible for blood counts and provision of safe blood for transfusion to all patients. It is equipped with four main analyzers which also relay reports directly to the information system; The Cell Dyne 3500, Cell Dyne 3700, Celltac Haematology analyzers, Fascount and the ACL Coagulation equipments. Other than routine competencies in haematology and blood transfusion, our laboratory has strengths in coagulation studies for:

Factor VIII, Factor IX, Protein C, Protein S, Anti-thrombin III, Lupus Anticoagulant. It has modernized flow cytometry with quality reports on CD 4&CD 8, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B (HBV), Hepatitis C (HCB) and gonorrhoea, preparations of various blood components such as platelet concentrate, fresh frozen plasma and parked red cells as well as blood grouping and cross match.
